Goverment funding

There are a number of national, regional and local government initiatives that provide funding:

• School Standards Programme

  Schools are free to spend their School Development Grant on any purpose to support improvement in teaching and learning, leading to higher standards of attainment throughout the school.

• Local Authority Grants

  Includes several funding initiatives that may provide funding as part of a strategy of improvement for your school.

• Schools Access Initiative (SAI)

  The Schools Access Initiative (SAI) provides a source of funding for both mainstream and voluntary aided schools to make them more accessible to disabled children. It can and has been used to install sound amplification equipment to benefit hearing impaired pupils.

• Access To Work

  If your work as a teacher is affected by a voice disability that is likely to last for a period of 12 months or more you can ask the Disability Employement Adviser (DEA) at your local Jobcentre Plus office about Access To Work.

• Building Schools for the Future

  The BSF project is designed to greatly improve the standards of schools and included in the requirements for BSF is the need for better acoustics in classrooms. Therefore if your school or authority is involved in a BSF project ensure that classroom amplification is included in the specification.
